Confederate major general (1826-1895) who distinguished himself during the Siege of Petersburg; in his career as a civil engineer, Mahone was prominent in the building of Virginia's roads and railroads. Partly-printed DS, signed “Wm. Mahone,” one page, 11 x 7.25, November 20, 1871. Stock certificate for five shares of the Atlantic, Mississippi & Ohio Rail Road Company issued to George T. Rogers, signed in ink by Mahone as president and James E. Cuthbert as secretary. In fine condition.
