Ellsworth provides for "Necessaries in Sickness to a Soldier" during the Revolution

Third chief justice of the United States (1745-1807) and delegate to the Constitutional Congress who later submitted the amendments which became the Bill of Rights. Revolutionary War-dated manuscript DS, signed “O. Ellsworth,” one page, 8.5 x 6.25, May 13, 1777. Pay order to Treasurer John Lawrence, in part: "Please to pay Joseph Griswold, by the hand of Hezekiah Lane Esqr. Two pounds Eleven Shillings & Ten pence for Necessaries in Sickness to a Soldier of a neighboring State on his way thro' this State." In fine condition.
