American swing, bop, and blues drummer (1917-1988) who, besides leading his own groups, played with notable musicians like Lena Horne, Coleman Hawkins, Dexter Gordon, Benny Carter, Cab Calloway, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Roy Eldridge. Vintage glossy 9.5 x 7.75 publicity photo of Heard playing drums with the Cab Calloway Orchestra, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Tony, J. C. Heard, Drums.” In very good to fine condition, with trimmed borders, old tape to the upper corner tips, and a vertical crease at the bottom which passes through the first letter of the signature.
