Professional wrestler and actor (1903-1971) known in the wrestling world as the Super Swedish Angel. Johnson is best remembered for his roles in a number of B-movies, including Ed Wood's iconic Plan 9 from Outer Space. Exceedingly rare vintage glossy 8.25 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint "Best Wishes and Luck to My Good Pal and Manager Louis De Tinis, Jan. 26, 1959, From Tor Johnson.” In fine condition, with ink flow issues rendering only a couple of words visible, the rest of the writing, including the signature, surface impressions fully visible only at an angle. A magnificent photo of the Swedish giant and fan-favorite of the horror industry—Johnson remains scarce across all formats.
Provenance: Originally part of Ed Wood’s Personal Collection, Lot 3026, which was sold at RR Auction in March 2015.
