French soldier and military commander during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars (1769-1815) who was one of the original 18 Marshals of France created by Napoleon; he commanded the Old Guard at Waterloo but was tried and condemned for treason by the Chamber of Peers and executed. Rare ALS in French, signed “Ney,” one page both sides, 8.5 x 14.25, Army of Sambre-et-Meuse letterhead, October 6, 1797. Untranslated handwritten letter to François Joseph Lefebvre, who would also be named as one of the original 18 Marshals of France created by Napoleon. In fine condition, with toning to the top edge of the first page.
