Uncommon manuscript DS, signed “Geo. Clinton,” one page, 8.25 x 13, January 19, 1779. As "Governor of the State of New York General and Commander in Chief of all the Militia and Admiral of the Navy of the same," Clinton orders that the execution of John Ryan, who "should be hanged by the neck until he should be dead," will be delayed two months until the 22nd of March. Signed boldly at the conclusion by George Clinton. A portion of the original paper seal remains affixed to the upper left corner. In very good to fine condition, with old repairs to edge tears and fold splits, and some damage to the seal in the upper left corner.
