Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15.25 x 18.25, February 2, 1854. President Pierce appoints Henry S. Newcomb as "a Lieutenant in the Navy." Neatly signed at the conclusion by President Pierce and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy James C. Dobbin. The white paper seal affixed at the bottom remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with folds along the edges, and scattered light staining.
