Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Delaware (1728-1784) who famously rode his horse 80 miles non-stop to break the deadlock within the Delaware delegation to vote in favor of independence on July 2, 1776. Manuscript DS, one page, 8 x 12.25, circa 1769. Accounting document for expenses paid to Rodney by Kent County, Delaware, listing fees for recording the commissions of various judges, sheriffs, and coroners, the execution of warrants, and other legal matters. Nicely signed at the conclusion by Rodney. Mounted, matted, and framed to an overall size of 14.5 x 19. In very good to fine condition, with some paper loss to the top edge, and apparently an old repair along the back of the central horizontal fold.
