Description

Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “J. Q. Adams" as president and "H. Clay" as secretary of state, one page, 10.5 x 15.25, August 18, 1827. Scallop-top ship's pass issued to "the Brig [scratched out] of Providence, R.I., Jas. McKenzie, master or commander of the burthen of two Hundred thirty five…tons or thereabouts…navigated with Ten men." Signed at the conclusion by President Adams and countersigned by Secretary of State Clay. In very good condition, with toning and soiling, small areas of vellum loss, a missing seal, and Adams' signature several shades light.
