Description

Ike invites his brother to his second presidential inauguration: "So far as I can foresee, the Inauguration this year will follow much the same pattern as January 1953"

TLS as president signed “D.E.,” one page, 7 x 10.25, White House letterhead, November 26, 1956. Letter to his brother Arthur, inviting him to his second inauguration as president. In full: "So far as I can foresee, the Inauguration this year will follow much the same pattern as January 1953. I would doubt, however, that we could be quite as fortunate about weather this time. Invitations will soon be going out and you, of course, will receive one of the first. I think that the arrangements for visitors will be somewhat similar to those that prevailed in 1953. Tom Stephens will be my personal representative to answer any inquiries any of my family or close friends might have, and to be of whatever assistance he possibly can. Of course you could write to Colonel Schulz if you would prefer to do so." He adds a typed postscript: "Perhaps you will talk the matter over with Katherine and her husband to get their reaction, too. As you realize, I shall in any event send all of you invitations as souvenirs, even if you don't choose to attend." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
