Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 16 x 21, January 3, 1900. President McKinley appoints Lyman W. V. Kennon as "Colonel of the Thirty-fourth Regiment, United States Volunteers, in the service of the United States." Nicely signed at the conclusion by President McKinley and countersigned by Secretary of War Elihu Root. The blue War Office seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. In fine condition, with loss to the upper right corner. During the Spanish-American War, Kennon commanded Company 'E' of the 6th Infantry Regiment and was cited for bravery at San Juan Hill.
