Description

"There is nothing so precious to me just now as time"

ALS, one page, 4.75 x 7, 2 Richmond Terrace letterhead, April 27, 1899. Letter to R. S. Warren Bell, who was editor of The Captain, an English 'Magazine for Boys and Old Boys' designed to feature articles to entertain rather than to edify. It is likely that Warren Bell wrote to Stanley requesting an article for the magazine detailing his exploits. The letter, in full: "I am sorry to have to disoblige you, but there is nothing so precious to me just now as time & it is a perpetual struggle with me to keep myself free of all business, except that essentially connected with duty." In very good to fine condition, with toning from prior display, and old mounting remnants on the reverse.
