American politician (1839-1902) who earned the moniker 'Czar Reed' for his shrewd, aggressive tactics as Speaker of the House in the 1890s. ALS signed “T. B. Reed,” one page, 5.5 x 9, House of Representatives letterhead, December 15, 1891. Letter to Charles Potts, in full: "I am very much obliged by your print of Washington Monument as they meant it to be in 1850 and for the other extracts which it will be useful to retain. We shall all be very quiet this Congress." In fine condition.
