Description

Two letters by the German-born Union generals: an ALS signed "C. Schurz, Secretary," one page, Department of the Interior letterhead November 1, 1877, in part: "In reply to your letter…requesting copies of all reports made to this Department of the condition of the Washington Hospital for Foundlings…I have to inform you that the records of this Department do not show that any such reports have ever been received"; and an ALS signed "F. Sigel," one page, no date, in part: "Will you please to give Robert who has fast emerged from a glorious fight into the New York College—that article on General Porter?…How is it with you? We waited for you yesterday! Are you sick, or only dead?!" In overall fine condition, with the Sigel letter professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet.
