Description

Manuscript draft signed in pencil, "Theodore Roosevelt," three pages, 7.75 x 5.25, Western Union Telegraph Company letterhead, no date. Draft written in another hand and signed by Roosevelt, evidently for a speech or other address. In part: "On leaving California I cannot but express my regret that the limited time at my disposal and the arrangements made by the progressive committee did not permit of my again meeting my friends in Alameda County. My previous visits have been so pleasant and my addresses made both in Oakland and in the Classic Greek Theatre at Berkeley have been so kindly received that I have a strong feeling for that part of the state. However this fight that we are waging is one in which each must do his or her work and it is imperative that I do mine regardless of my personal wishes, by going to the places where the progressive principles are not so well understood and so heartily supported as they are in California." In fine condition.
