Controversial and colorful American politician and military officer (1819-1914) who lost his leg at the Battle of Gettysburg. ALS signed "D. Sickles," one page both sides, 5 x 7.75, personal monogrammed letterhead, no date. Sickles writes to General James G. Milton. In part: "The suggestion would be agreeable to me & if you will give me the name of the owner of the yacht I will confer with my colleagues of the Army of the Potomac Committee at once & inform you of their wishes promptly. This is necessary because we have made arrangements to meet the count down the bay in theā¦Germanic." In fine condition, with two areas of faint toning.
