Description

Very rare ALS signed "Bob," one page, 4 x 6, no date but circa 1971. Dylan writes to Tony Glover, asking for a friend and fellow musician's input on rough mixes of his songs 'George Jackson' and 'Wallflower.' In full: "Tony—Here's the songs. The tape is 4th generation but I don't think it matters. Call me when you hear it." Includes the original 1/4-inch Scotch RB-7 reel-to-reel audio tape in its original box, marked on the back: "George Jackson / Wallflower / George Jackson." In overall fine condition.

Both songs were recorded at Columbia Studio B on November 4, 1971, with Dylan backed by Kenneth Buttrey (drums), Ben Keith (steel guitar), and Leon Russell (bass). 'George Jackson,' a protest song inspired by the killing of Black Panther leader George Jackson at San Quentin Prison in August, was quickly released as a single a week after the session. 'Wallflower,' on the other hand, did not see the light of day until being released as part of The Bootleg Series in 1991.
