Description

American humorist, author, and screenwriter (1904-1979) best known for his humorous short pieces written for The New Yorker. TLS signed “Sid P.,” one page, 8.5 x 11, April 7, 1946. Letter to literary agent H. N. Swanson, in part: "Our correspondence over the past couple of years is hardly voluminous or epigrammatic enough to compete with the Bernard Shaw-Ellen Terry Letters, but on the other hand I trust my ramshackle face hasn't faded entirely from your mind. This business of negotiating through Leah is a little on the dim side, and I have been wondering increasingly what developments, if any, were taking place regarding a picture assignment for Baby…What leads have your lads uncovered and when do you think they might burgeon into a deal? Please understand that I am in no sense undermining Leah. It's just that almost two months have elapsed since I told her I wanted to come out to the Coast and I'd begun to feel the whole thing was becoming remote. An official report directly from you, counched [sic] in your usual Addisonian manner, would bring the roses to my cheeks." In fine condition.
