Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Franklin Pierce" as president and "Jeffer. Davis" as secretary of war, one page, 15.75 x 19.5, September 1, 1856. President Pierce appoints Robert Orr Craig as "Assistant Surgeon in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by both Franklin Pierce and Jefferson Davis. Embossed War Office seal remains affixed to lower left corner. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light stains.
