American jurist and politician (1808-1895) who served on the Supreme Court from 1870 to 1880. ALS signed “W. Strong,” one page, 4.75 x 8, April 7, 1883. Letter to Dr. Hatfield, in part: "I have a letter from Rev. Dr. Robert Knox of Belfast, Ireland in which he says he has written twice, to you, without obtaining an answer. He seeks information, some of which I am unable to give. Will you oblige me by sending to me, answers to the following—1. Has our Assembly appointed delegates to the next General Council of the Presbyterian Alliance? If it has please give me their names and addresses. 2. Has our Assembly appointed any Committee of Correspondence with the Committee of the Council?" In fine condition, with a block of light toning over the center of the letter.
