Union general (1827-1894) who fought at Gettysburg and accompanied Sherman on his March to the Sea. Civil War-dated ALS signed “H. W. Slocum,” one page, 6.75 x 8.75, August 12, 1862. Letter to Maj. Gen. W. Hillbourn, in part: "Lieut. R. P. Wilson, Adjt. 16—N.Y.W. and recently a member of Co. Bartlett's staff, would accept a position in one of the New Regts. from our State, if desired. He is a valuable officer, and has served with this command in all the recent engagements. He is familiar with the details of service and would be of great assistance in a new post. He is justly entitled to a promotion, on account of his long, faithful service." Ornately triple-suede-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 25 x 19.5. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light staining.
