In 1880, Besant earned top honors in scientific subjects in the South Kensington Branch of London University, where she had a very close involvement with her chemistry instructor, Dr. Edward Bibbins Aveling. Her studies, and parallel interests in theosophy, ultimately led Besant to co-author the 1908 book Occult Chemistry: Investigations by Clairvoyant Magnification into the Structure of the Atoms of the Periodic Table and Some Compounds.
