Rare Inauguration Day cover with a cachet honoring President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan, postmarked on January 20, 1981, signed by both in black ballpoint. Cloth-matted and framed to an overall size of 16 x 13.25. In very fine condition. This commemorative 'free frank' is essentially as close to a Reagan free frank as is possible, given the end of official franking privileges for sitting presidents in 1873. A 1996 Christie's description notes that Reagan signed 15 inaugural covers on the day of his inauguration.
