Description

British author (1893-1957) best known for her series of mysteries featuring fictional detective Lord Peter Wimsey. ALS signed “Dorothy L. Sayers,” one page, 7.25 x 9.75, December 12, 1935. Letter to G. Hopkins of the Oxford University Press, in part: "(Forgive this paper—all I seem to have in Town). I noticed this afternoon, standing in the street outside the shop of E. Joseph…a pile of gloomy volumes, announcing themselves as 'The first 50 years of Puck, bound in 12 vols., for £3.10.0.' So if all else fails, we might fall back on that, if the Press can stand the financial strain…As a reminder—the Compton Mackenzie quotation: Old Lady Somebody's advice to Michael about behaviour at Oxford: 'In your first year, establish your sanity; in your second, display your charm; in your third, do as you like.' Words to that effect. I think it is in Vol. II Book I, 'Dreaming Spires,' but I find I don't possess a Sinister Street." In very good to fine condition, with light overall creasing, and two file holes to the left edge.
