United States Navy admiral (1939-1996) who served as the 25th Chief of Naval Operations, and committed suicide following a media investigation into the legitimacy of his having worn two service ribbons with bronze 'V' devices, which indicate the awards were for service in a combat zone. Boorda had not participated in combat, and the error is believed to have been made in good faith. Nevertheless, Boorda felt as though he had tarnished the reputation of the Navy and took his own life. Color satin-finish 8 x 10 photo of Boorda in uniform with the incorrect 'V' devices on his ribbon rack, signed and inscribed in gold ink "May 1994, To Ken & Joyce Browne, Best Wishes, Mike Boorda, CNO.” In fine condition, with a couple of light scuffs to the photo.
