Description

Hoover remains optimistic following intestinal surgery

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, October 10, 1962. Letter to Professor Marvin Rintala of Brown University, in full: "That was a charming note. Dr. Coue's cure was to repeat 'every day in every way I am getting better and better.' His prescription has validity, but he omitted to mention the dozen devoted doctors and nurses who are also necessary. In any event, he states the fact." In fine condition. Hoover was perhaps eager to try all manner of convalescent therapy following an August 1962 surgery that resulted in the removal of a growth on his large intestine. He died two years later at the age of 90, making him the sixth oldest American president. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services.
