American military officer (1865-1912) who served as an influential aide to presidents Roosevelt and Taft before perishing during the sinking of the Titanic. ALS signed “Archie W. Butt,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 6 x 7.25, War Department letterhead, April 3, 1906. Letter to Albert Halstead, in part: "My sincere congratulations both to you and Mrs. Halstead. I know you will both enjoy England." In fine condition.
