TLS as president, one page, 8 x 10.5, White House letterhead, February 8, 1947. Letter to Governor Beauford Jester of Texas, in part: "Last May I called a Highway Safety Conference in Washington to formulate a nationwide program to stem the then increasing tide of traffic accidents. Two thousand delegates appointed by the Governors attended and adopted a comprehensive Action Program. Subsequent nationwide activities have already sharply reduced the traffic fatality rate, although 1946 travel was the greatest in history. In 1947 most states have the opportunity of broadening their traffic accident prevention activities by action of legislatures. Many have already adopted legislation which will insure safer and more efficient highway transportation." He goes on to invite Governor Jester to a conference on highway safety, with the goal of accelerating the decrease in the traffic fatality rate. In very good to fine condition, with some light creasing, and a light block of overall toning from prior display.
