British film and stage actor (1893-1960) best known for playing Inspector Lestrade in six films of Universal's Sherlock Holmes series. Scarce vintage matte-finish 7.5 x 9.25 portrait of Hoey in a suit and tie, lengthily signed and inscribed in fountain pen to a Californian scout troop. In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges, and discoloration to the right side from onetime exposure to moisture. Hoey remains uncommon across all signed formats, and this example represents the only signed photo we have ever offered.
