Attractive matte-finish 7.25 x 9.5 photograph of Elizabeth, Queen Mother, holding a bouquet of flowers at an event, affixed to a 9 x 12.5 mount, signed on the mount in fountain pen, "Elizabeth R, 1956." Nicely matted and framed to an overall size of 14.5 x 18. In very fine condition.
Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was Queen consort of King George VI from 1936 until his death in 1952. Subsequently known as Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, to avoid confusion with her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II. She was the last queen consort of Ireland and Empress consort of India.
Provenance: Formerly the property of Mr. Peter Brough, a British entertainer who was responsible for organizing private functions for the Royal Family each Christmas at Windsor Castle in the 1950’s and 60’s. Brough was best known for his ventriloquist act using a puppet called Archie Andrews and was an extremely popular figure in both Radio and TV light entertainment. He was a great favourite of H.M. the Queen Mother, who would occasionally send him photographs of herself, including this one taken at a public function in 1956. Although he retired from show business in 1961, Brough continued to be involved with the organization of private entertainment for the Royal Family. Mr. Brough passed away in June 1999, aged 83. This item was acquired in 2012 directly from Mr. Brough’s daughter Sarah, who was kind enough to provide a copy of one of the many letters of thanks received by Mr. Brough that accompanied the various Royal tokens he received over the years. Intended only to demonstrate the validity of her claims and not as a piece of Royal ephemera in its own right, a copy of this example (from 1958) is attached to this item.
