Belgian composer and violinist (1820-1881) considered an essential part of the Franco-Belgian violin school during the mid-19th century. Handsome 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo of the composer by an Antwerp photography studio, signed in the lower border in ink, "H. Vieuxtemps," and signed and inscribed on the reverse in French by Vieuxtemps, with a date of January 1877 and the addition of a two-bar autograph musical quotation. In fine condition, with a thin strip of mounting tape along the left edge of the image side, and light soiling to the reverse.
