ADS, signed “J. Q. Adams, Chairman,” one page, 8 x 10, December 1834. Document penned by Adams as ex-president while serving in the House of Representatives, in full: "The members of the Committee of Manufactures, are requested to meet at the Chamber of the Committee, tomorrow morning, at eleven o'clock." He lists the names of the members below: "Messrs. Denny, Dickerson N.J., Martindale, M'Comas, Osgood, Clowney, Cramer, Jackson of Conn't." At the bottom is a note by Adams's son, the diplomat Charles Francis Adams, dated October 28, 1869, sending his father's autograph to a collector: "I send you the above, but if you would like a letter in preference I will change it." In fine condition, with light blocks of toning to the right side. As chairman of the House Committee of Manufactures, John Quincy Adams championed the the role of factories and manufacturing as a means of developing the nation’s economy and a way to become less dependent on European goods.
