Written from Beverly Farms, a letter to William Ordway Partridge, in full: "How many thanks I owe you for the kind expressions of your brief letter! I passed through Siena in 1835 and only remember the Zebra-stripes on the front of the cathedral. Little did I think that my name would ever reach so far as that, and I cannot help being pleased at finding I have a reader and a grateful one in that most ancient and venerable city. I thank you again for taking the trouble to tell me I have." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, which Holmes has addressed in his own hand and signed in the lower left corner, "O. W. Holmes."
