Description

Rare 1967 signatures of The Doors, plus an exceedingly scarce handbill for their Cal Poly show

Super desirable vintage felt tip signatures, "Jim," "Ray," "John," and "The Doors, Robby," who adds the inscription, "to Janice," on an off-white 9 x 6 sheet of notebook paper. Includes the extremely rare original 8.5 x 5.5 handbill for Doors concert held at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, on October 27, 1967, at which these signatures were obtained. In very good to fine condition, with light toning, and many pin-sized holes (and some slightly larger tack-sized holes to the bottom of the sheet). Accompanied by a letter of provenance from original recipient, stating that she witnessed the signing of these autographs.

The autumn of 1967 was a defining period for The Doors. On September 17th, their memorable performance of 'Light My Fire' on The Ed Sullivan Show, highlighted by Jim Morrison's defiant singing of the word 'higher,' much to the chagrin of network executives, further propelled the band's notoriety and record sales. A week after the Sullivan Show, The Doors released their second full-length record in Strange Days, an album that landed in the No. 3 spot in the Billboard charts a mere month after the quartet's self-titled debut had reached No. 2. An extremely desirable set of early Doors autographs, paired with an equally coveted handbill for an early concert.
