Important English surgeon and pathologist (1814-1899). ALS, one page both sides, 4.25 x 7, personal letterhead, October 29, 1891. In part: "I thank you very much for your kind congratulations and good wishes on my son's appointment. You are exactly right in your sentiments that the happiness felt at a son's success is greater than that felt at one's own: the first impression of happiness may not be so but the abiding sense of it is certainly greater and I hope it will be more enduring." In fine condition, with light edge toning to the first page.
