ALS signed “George,” one page both sides, 5.25 x 7, personal letterhead letterhead, November 23, 1940. Letter to Mrs. Egan, the widow of one of his childhood friends, in full: "Thank you so much for your letter. I was so sorry to hear of the death of your husband & send you very much sympathy as I know what his loss must mean to you. It is very kind of him to have left me the Brass Brazier & the Maltese door knocker & I am most touched he should have thought of me after all these years. I hope you don't find Windsor too noisy but it is the same every where just now. What a horrible war this is but we shall win through. I am very busy with R. A. F. going round all over the country which is most interesting tho' rather tiring. I'm so glad you are carrying on with R. N. L. I. as it is most important work especially at this time. With again my deepest sympathy." In fine condition, with scattered light creasing and a few small stains. Accompanied by an unsigned period photo.
