Description

Broadway star (1847-1924) who spent much of her youth dancing on stage for miners in the California Gold Rush, eventually becoming the protegee of actress Lola Montez. TLS signed “Lotta M. Crabtree,” one page, 5 x 6.5, February 22, 1912. Letter to Scott Clifton Carbee, in full: "Regret exceedingly that I was unable to accept your kind invitation for Wednesday, February Twentieth; also to have the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Foss. Believe me, I appreciate the courtesy extended." Matted and framed to an overall size of 9.5 x 11.5 In fine condition, with light stains to the upper corners. A particularly uncommon example given that Crabtree routinely signed letters with only her first name.
