Union major general (1822-1901) who fought at Antietam and Second Bull Run. ALS signed “F. J. Porter,” one page, 4.5 x 6.75, December 25, 1884. Letter to General Gilman Marston, in part: "Accept my hearty good wishes for a merry Christmas and the enjoyment of the seasons as they roll around…In this hope join many of your old soldiers & officers & comrades from New Hampshire to Texas, who write me expressing hope that the Governor will send forth this glad tidings of great joy." In fine condition, with a short split along one of the intersecting folds. Accompanied by a modern photo of Porter.
