English statesman (1520-1598) and chief advisor to Queen Elizabeth I for most of her reign. Scallop-topped manuscript vellum DS, in Old English, signed “W. Burghley,” one page, 24.25 x 15.5, 1586. Untranslated. Signed on the lower border in ink by Burghley. Document retains its original ribbon. In very good to fine condition, with some soiling, and small splits along intersecting folds.
