Description

Financier and philanthropist (1855-1937) who helped found the Gulf Oil Corporation; he also served as treasury secretary under Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover. TLS signed “A. W. Mellon,” one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Railroad Administration letterhead, March 6, 1929. Letter to "Whom It May Concern," in full: "The bearer of this letter, Miss Mary Randolph, who is the social secretary at the White House, is going to Canada for a short stay. It will be appreciated if the officials of the Railroads or Customs Service show her any courtesies which may be consistent with their duties." In fine condition.
