American soldier and statesman (1838-1926), grandson of the founder of the DuPont gunpowder and chemical fortune, who won the Medal of Honor for his service during the Civil War and who later served as a railroad executive and senator from Delaware. Partly-printed DS, signed “H. A. du Pont,” one page, 13.5 x 9.5, December 1, 1887. Bond issued by the Wilmington and Northern Railroad Company for the sum of $500, to be repaid with interest at the rate of five percent annually. Prominently signed at the conclusion by du Pont as president of the company. The certificate features two impressive vignettes depicting trains. In fine condition.
