Businessman (1857-1911) who served in Theodore Roosevelt’s cabinet as Secretary of the Navy for one year from 1904 to 1905. Partly-printed DS, one page, 9.5 x 15, October 19, 1904. Naval appointment issued to William Nicholas Richardson, Jr. In part: “By direction of the President of the United States you are hereby appointed a Midshipman in the United States Navy.” Signed at the conclusion by Secretary of Navy Morton. In fine condition. Accompanied by two additional appointments for Richardson: one 1917 document naming him as a lieutenant, signed by Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels; and one 1929 document naming him as a commander, signed by Acting Secretary of the Navy Theodore Douglas Robinson.
