William Makepeace Thackeray

ALS signed “W. M. Thackeray,” one page, 4.25 x 7, no date but circa 1850s. Letter to "Mrs. Fitzroy," the wife of noted English Vice-Admiral Robert FitzRoy, commander of HMS Beagle. In full: "Will you and the Admiral give next door the pleasure of your company at dinner on Friday 1 February at 7.30." Thackeray notes his address as "36 Onslow Sqr.," where he lived from 1853 to 1860; Robert FitzRoy lived at 38 Onslow Square from 1854 to 1865. In fine condition, with a trimmed left edge.
