Description

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 9, Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland letterhead, July 9, 1923. Letter to William H. Kelley, in part: "I understand that the State of New York will, this autumn elect a Member of the Court of Appeals as successor to Judge Hogan who is retiring, having reached the age limit. For this place I want to suggest the name of Honorable John E. Mack of Poughkeepsie, New York. I do this first because of his undoubted qualifications in the profession of the law; secondly, because of the very high regard in which he is held for his personal characteristics by all who know him; and thirdly because he is generally known to the people of the entire State…I would also call your attention to the desirability of having the next Member of the Court come from this portion of the State, as it would help much in balancing the geographical representation of the members." In very good condition, with irregular overall staining, heaviest to the upper left.
