Description

TLS, one page, 6 x 9.25, White House letterhead, December 12, 1939. Letter to her voice teacher, Mrs. von Hesse, in part: "I shall be delighted to have you stay the night of the 9th, and as we have a small musicale that day at the White House in the afternoon I think you will enjoy that. However, in the evening I have an engagement so if you have any friend in Washington whom you would like to have dine with you here, or to whom you would like to go, I shall be glad to arrange it. The $5.00 was for my lesson because that is what you told me I now would pay. I really think it much less than other people pay but that is what you said and, therefore, I am returning it. How nice of you to go to hear me speak at Columbia and I am glad you were proud of me." In fine condition, with light paperclip impressions to the upper left.
