Description

Early practitioner of space medicine (1922-1998) who served as the personal physician for the Mercury Seven; he later joined the McDonnell Douglas Corporation as life sciences director to help with the design of an orbiting space station. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 close-up photo of Douglas wearing a helmet, signed and inscribed in black ink, "To Joe Cronin, who turns a little wheel that makes the big wheel turn, Sincerely, W. K. Douglas, Lt. Col. USAF, MC.” Lower right bears a ballpoint notation indicating date of signature, "9-9-61." In very good to fine condition, with scattered creasing and some areas of irregularity to the emulsion.
