Description

American-born English socialite (1879-1964) who married Waldorf Astor and became the first woman to sit as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons. TLS, one page, 8 x 5, personal letterhead, July 11, 1938. Letter to Curtis Freshel, in part: "Thank you for your letters…with their enclosed cuttings. I was glad to see that the New York World Telegram of June 24th supported Mr. Chamberlain so strongly." In fine condition. An interesting letter associated with Neville Chamberlain's policies of appeasement toward Nazi Germany.
