TLS in Hebrew, one page, 8 x 10, Daniel Sieff Research Institute letterhead, January 13, 1938. Letter to Dr. J. Hirshberg, in full (translated): "By this letter we have the pleasure to inform you that for the year 1938 your position is being classified as Senior Worker. Your salary shall be 28 pounds per month. This includes a 2 pound supplement because you are married." In very good to fine condition, with staining along intersecting folds. Chaim Weizmann founded the Daniel Sieff Research Institute in 1934, fourteen years prior to the foundation of the state of Israel; the multidisciplinary research center was renamed as the Weizmann Institute of Science in his honor on November 2, 1949, just eight months after he was elected as Israel’s first president. A biochemist himself, Weizmann had long been dedicated to the scientific education of the Jewish people.
