Civil War-dated endorsements, signed “Joseph Hooker," "O. O. Howard," and "C. Schurz,” on the reverse center panel of a handwritten letter from Lieutenant William Radcliff to General William Whipple, one page, 7.75 x 10, December 29, 1863. The letter, in part: "I have the honor to apply for a Leave of Absence for twenty days to visit my home in Sullivan County, State of New York, for the purpose of recruiting my health, visiting aged parents, and attending to important private business." Both Schurz and Howard sign their approval on December 31st, with Hooker adding his endorsement on January 1, 1864. In fine condition, with a few scattered stains.
