Description

British general (1719-1787) who was commander in chief of the North American forces from 1763 to 1775. LS signed “Tho. Gage,” one page, 7.25 x 8.75, January 4, 1764. Letter to Colony of Rhode Island Governor Stephen Hopkins, in full: "I take the Earliest opportunity of Transmitting to You a Letter from the Secretary of State which I received under Cover Yesterday; The Dispatches were brought by a Sloop of War to Rhode Island and forwarded from thence to Me—." Professionally inlaid into a larger sheet and in fine condition.
